Work Study (WS)

Federal WS

Federal work-study is an 8-15 hour-a-week job (minimum wage). The colleges administer this need-based program.

State WS

State work-study is a work program set up by individual states.

College WS

College work-study is a work program set up by the individual college and can be based on the need or the merit of the student.

Need-based work-study is not assessed in the EFC formula.

The taxable earnings from need-based employment programs, such as Federal WS and need-based employment portions of fellowships and assistantships, is deducted from the formula on the FAFSA.
